MOUNT ORAB — Davey Tunon pinned his way through the 152 pound weight class to earn the championship at the Hammer & Anvil Invitational Saturday at Western Brown High School.
In the final team standings, Clinton-Massie was 12th overall with 93 points. Wilmington was 18th with 73 points and Blanchester was 23rd with 24 points.
Cincinnati Oak Hills won the event with 226 points. Lebanon was runnerup and Western Brown was third.
Tunon, 19-1 on the year, had pins of 1:29, 1:00 and 0:34 in Pool A before recording pins of 0:55 and 1:45 in the bracket portion of the event. In the finals, he pinned Malachi Marlow of Western Brown in 1:45.
Isaac Allen was Wilmington’s top finisher, placing fifth at 145 pounds. He was runnerup in Pool B then decisioned Jacob Rygieski of Clarkston 10-8 in the consolation bracket before pinned Brian Howell of Campbell Co. (Ky.) in the fifth-place match.
Cade Huston was Blanchester’s top finisher, placing fifth at 220 pounds. He was runnerup in Pool B with a 2-1 record (pins in 0:50 and 1:06). He won by default over Brendan Wamsley of Lebanon in the bracket then was pinned by Grant Carlson of Tippecanoe in 3:34 in the fifth place match.
Matt Asher of Clinton-Massie was fourth overall at 113 pounds, finishing first in Pool B then going 0-2 in the bracketed tournament. Asher was pinned by Nate Keaton of Circleville in 3:24 in the semifinals then he lost to Graham Shore of Miami East 13-3 in the consolation finals.
Anthony Tissandier of Clinton-Massie finished fourth at 170 pounds. He went 3-0 in Pool B with pins of 1:17 and 1:11 and a 3-2 win. In the bracket, Tissandier was pinned by Casey Cornett of Simon Kenton in 3:13 and then was decisioned by Nick Goldfuss of Oak Hills 10-2 in the consolation match.
At 106 pounds, Wilmington’s Cameron Smart was eighth overall. At 132 pounds, Wilmington’s Jacob Boldman was sixth overall. At 152 pounds, Wilmington’s Bryant Bergefurd was eighth. At 160 pounds, Ross Lennon of Clinton-Massie was eighth.
