ADAMS TOWSHIP – Clinton-Massie sizzled the frigid January air by blistering the nets from behind the arc in a 70-57 South Central Ohio League victory over Hillsboro Tuesday.

Noah Greathouse nailed five threes and tallied a team-high 23 points. Trey Uetrecht finished with 13 points and Nick Chowning buried three from long-distance and finished with 12 points.

They combined with Bailey LeForge to connect on 11 threes. In all, Massie hit 11-of-29 from behind the arc.

“Everybody played well tonight. When you shoot the ball well, it makes things easier. We moved the basketball and got everyone open shots,” CM head coach Dustin Eads said. “(Hillsboro) played really well in the second quarter and got it close in the third. But our boys just kept battling back and getting big rebounds and stops. We found a way to pull this game out.”

The Falcons (5-7, 3-5) shot 71 percent from the field in the opening period and got a combined six threes from Chowning, Greathouse and Uetrecht to build a 31-16 lead.

Their efforts help spoil a 25-point effort by Phillip Mycroft, 17 of them in the first half to help the Indians (6-9, 3-6) pull within 40-32 at the intermission.

Hillsboro scored seven of the first eight points in the second half to trail Massie 41-39, but the Falcons would outscore Hillsboro 13-5 the rest of the third quarter to put the game away. Greathouse had a pair of threes in that stretch.

“We crawled back in the game one possession at a time. We came out with some energy in the third quarter. But we just couldn’t get the buckets. We’d get a stop, then have a turnover,” Hillsboro head coach Bruce Miles said. “Greathouse is a great shooter, and he made some key threes for them.”

CM scored six straight points to push its advantage to 62-46 midway through the final quarter.

Massie led by as much as 67-50 in the second half.

Hillsboro won the JV game 41-26. Hillsboro’s Reece Bloomfield had 10 points, as did Massie’s Drew Settlemyre.

The Indians nipped Massie in the freshman contest 37-36. Christian McConehea led Hillsboro with 12 points. Spencer Voss and Zach Chowning had 11 for the Falcons.
