Astros hold off Tigers for SBAAC win

BETHEL – In a tighter match than expected, East Clinton outlasted Bethel-Tate 26-24, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21 Wednesday in an SBAAC National Division battle.

The Lady Astros are 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the National Division.

The Lady Tigers drop to 4-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.

“Definitely was closer than I wanted to be but the girls pulled through in the end and finished strong,” East Clinton coach Samantha McGraw said.

East Clinton won the first meeting of the season with the Tigers 25-19, 25-19, 25-15 on Aug. 27.

On Wednesday, Libby Evanshine had 20 kills and eight aces. Myah Jones had six aces while Gracie Boggs and Katrina Bowman had four aces each.

Jones and Bowman shared setting duties with Jones recording 12 assists and Bowman totaling 11. Gracie Evanshine led the defensive effort in the back row with 11 digs. Emma Malone had four digs.
