LEES CREEK – Clinton-Massie’s Miquela Santoro eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in a 66-31 victory Saturday at cross-county and South Central Ohio League rival East Clinton.

Entering the game just needing eight points to reach the milestone, Santoro reached it with a pair of free throws at the 4:22 mark of the second quarter that put the Falcons (16-3, 10-3) up 28-13.

Santoro finished with 21 points; her career point total now stands at 1,013. She also snatched 11 steals and seven rebounds, plus dished out four assists.

“What Miquela brings (to the team) is her tenacity to work hard. She works so hard defensively, which opens up a lot of things on the offensive end. Her work ethic is non-stop. She brings so much to the table. She’s our leader, our coach on the floor. The girls respond to her,” CM head coach Carlos Roberts said. “She makes things fun. She’s good-hearted. She’ll do what you ask her to do and beyond. What else do you ask for in a player?”

Clinton-Massie has had quite the string of 1,000-point scorers this decade. Santoro, who committed to play college basketball at Winthrop, joins a well-decorated group that includes Jordanne Gambill, who went on to play at Kentucky Wesleyan; Sydney Brackmyre, currently playing at Louisville; and Kasey Uetrecht, currently playing at Northern Kentucky. Gambill is Massie’s all-time leading scorer with 1,355 points.

Massie, ranked ninth in the latest Ohio Associated Press Division II girls poll, put away the game early. The Falcons scored the first 14 points of the game, eight of them by Johanna Theetge, and held EC without a field goal until the 2:46 mark of the opening period.

Theetge had a double-double, sharing game-high scoring honors with Santoro and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Brooke Rose joined teammates Theetge and Santoro in double-figures with 10 points.

Lacey Peterman led East Clinton (4-15, 1-12) with eight points.

EC won the JV contest 39-31 behind 10 points by Gracie McCarren. Madilyn Newton led the Falcons with 12 points. Teammate Faith Cottrell chipped in with 11.
