Sipple sets another record in runaway win

BLANCHESTER – A game after setting Blanchester’s boys hoops career scoring mark, junior Brayden Sipple poured in a single game school-record 47 points in a 95-36 pasting of Southern Buckeye Conference National Division foe Williamsburg Friday.

Sipple had 42 when he left the game at the 5:47 mark of the fourth quarter with Blanchester comfortably ahead 74-30. He re-entered the game a couple minutes later for a 45-second stretch during which he buried his fifth trey of the evening to eclipse the previous record of 44 (held by the late Bob Perry in 1966) and added to it with his third two-handed jam of the game.

“(Williamsburg head coach) Dan McKibben is a very good friend of mine, great coach. I’ve always been one, when you have the game in hand, you handle it properly. Then the scorer’s made me aware he (was close),” Blanchester head coach Adam Weber said. “With that amount of time I said, ‘Surely Dan will understand.’ That’s what happened there.

“When you got a kid on the cusp of something, you got to go after it when they’re there.”

Sipple had 24 by the intermission, eight of them during Blan’s 11-0 run to end the first half. He drained three threes and took a steal a distance in the first three minutes of the third period to give Blan (2-0, 1-0) a 53-22 advantage.

Blanchester went up 40 points just seconds into final quarter, on one of Jacksson Waialae’s four bombs. Waialae finished with 16 points, 12 of them in the second half.

Loghan Kelley led Williamsburg (0-2, 0-1) with nine points.
