BLANCHESTER — Libby Evanshine had 23 points and East Clinton’s defense held Blanchester to 19 percent shooting Thursday in a 64-42 SBAAC National Division win at the BHS gym.

The Lady Astros are 3-5 overall, 2-2 in the National.

The Ladycats move to 1-5 overall, 0-5 in the conference.

“We’ll just keep working hard to get better,” BHS coach Bradon Pyle said.

Evanshine was 10 for 17 from the field and led all scorers with 23 points. Gracie Evanshine had 13 points and Kami Whiteaker added 11.

Gracie Boggs had seven rebounds and blocked five shots inside for EC. Kelsi Lilly led all players with 12 rebounds.

For Blanchester, Olivia Potts had 12 points and Holly Scott added 11. Lana Roy was a spark with nine rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lacie Tedrick grabbed seven rebounds for BHS.

The East Clinton defense held Blanchester without a field goal (0-14 shooting) in the opening period. Two free throws by Potts were the only BHS points. Gracie Evanshine drained a pair of three-pointers and the Astros were off to a 14-1 lead.

The Ladycats ended their field goal drought on the first possession of the second quarter. That sparked a 9-3 BHS run. Roy was the catalyst with a couple of steals and a couple of assists in the spurt.

Libby Evanshine helped stem the tide for East Clinton with six points in short order. The Astros lead was back to 25-13.

But Brown scored the final two baskets of the half for Blanchester and the difference was eight at the break, 25-17.

East Clinton came out of the locker-room hot again, scoring nine of the first 11 points in the quarter. Boggs had four and Lilly hit a three as EC led 34-19. Libby Evanshine got in on the act and helped push the Astro advantage to 40-21.

Neither team was able to take advantage of technical fouls against their opponent in the fourth. The East Clinton lead held steady around 20 points much of the rest of the game.
