HUBER HEIGHTS — By 22 pins, the Clinton-Massie girls bowling team qualified for the Div. II Southwest District bowling tournament next week at Beaver-Vu Lanes.
In addition, Clinton-Massie boys Jacob Wellman and Aric France qualified for the district tournament as well. The district will be held Feb. 18 at Beaver-Vu Lanes.
Clinton-Massie bowled in the Div. II sectional tournaments at Poelking-Marian Lanes — the boys on Wednesday and the girls on Thursday.

The girls finished with a 2,969 team total and finished 10th, edging Mississinawa Valley (2,947) for the final district qualifying spot.
“The girls really pulled together as a team and bowled their hearts out,” said CM coach Shonda Marburger. “After three individual games we were down 127 pins from 10th place. Going into the Baker games, I told team ‘Every pin counts.’
“They fought hard to get every pin they had. We came and beat Mississinawa Valley. I couldn’t be more proud of each and every girls. Every one of them came to bowl.”
Brittany Fry, a freshman, led CM with a 485 (171, 145, 169) series while Josie Wolfe had 442 (129, 153, 160). Two-games series were bowled by Gwen Broderick (136, 121) and Casey Cochran (157, 139). Singles games were by Katie Starnes (139), Kathryn Wilson (114).
The Falcon boys were 15th as a team, shooting just 918 in the six Baker games.
Wellman had a consistent day with a 598 series, games of 182, 206, 210. “He was on his game,” Marburger said.
France had a 571 (213, 211, 147).
Two-games series were by Joey Marburger 185, 151, David Poynter 141, 178, Corey Potts 150, 147. Singles games were bowled by Kenton McInerney 147 and Chandler Morsch 172.
