OXFORD — Individual results from the Div. I Southwest District boys swimmimg championships at Miami University were not good for Wilmington High School.

In four individual events, the three Hurricane swimmers placed 19th or lower and will not qualify for the state swim meet.

Only the top 18 swimmers in a given district meet have a chance at advancing to state. The top two finishers in each swimming event are guaranteed a state berth.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team was 10th overall while the 200-yard freestyle relay was 15th. After the top two in each event, the next 16 best times from all districts in the state will qualify for the state meet in Canton.

Austin Carey advanced to the district meet in two events — he was 24th in the 50-yard freestyle and 19th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Wilmington’s Harrison Law was 27th in the 100-yard butterfly and Sam Osborn was 30th in the 100-yard freestyle.

The girls from Wilmington and Clinton-Massie will begin swimming in the district meet at 6 p.m.
