BHS tennis outlasts rain, CNE for 4-1 win

BLANCHESTER — After a long wait, tennis was played Tuesday at the high school and Blanchester defeated Clermont Northeastern 4-1 in SBAAC National Division play.

The teams waited out the rain then dried the court with several people pitching in. The match was scheduled to start at 4 p.m. but did not begin until approximately 6:30 p.m.

“First off, a huge thanks to athletic director Brad Ballinger, the CNE coaching staff, my brother (Michael), my non-starting players and Chris Bradley, among others, who helped me with the roll-drying of the tennis courts. I wasn’t sure they were ever going to dry, but thanks to the efforts of all of those people, we got to play,” BHS coach Matt Sexton said.

Blanchester is unbeaten in National Division play at 2-0 and stands 4-2 overall. CNE is 1-2 overall, 1-1 in the division.

The singles trio of Maddy Coyle, Grace Irwin and Annie Trovillo made quick work of their rivals to put BHS up early.

“There isn’t much more I can say about our singles players that I haven’t already said,” Sexton noted. “They have worked extremely hard. They are very good. They are getting better with each match as their experience grows.”

First doubles winners Taylor Bradley and Rianna Mueller are “starting to build chemistry and play better with each matter,” said Sexton.
