The Wilmington High School volleyball team opened its season with a 19-25, 15-25, 25-27 loss to Dayton Christian at the old Wilmington High School gym.

“We really struggled with serve receive, that killed us,” said WHS coach Jenna Persinger. “If we can’t pass, we can’t run the offense we want to run.”

The WHS junior varsity squad was victorious 25-14, 25-8.

For the varsity, Persinger said Dayton Christian “came ready to play.”

“We had moments where we played right with them, however, we made way too many unforced errors to come out on top in any of the sets.”

Persinger said “there were some bright spots … the girls played hard, great defensively and never gave up.”
