BHS ends regular season with 3-2 win over MHS

BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester tennis team completed a record season Saturday with a 3-2 win over Middletown in non-league action on the BHS courts.

The Ladycats wrap up the season with a 15-2 record, believed to be the best single season win total for girls tennis in school history.

Also, this is the first time in Matt Sexton’s coaching tenure at BHS the three singles players all reach 18 wins – Maddy Coyle 18-4, Grace Irwin 21-1 and Annie Trovillo 19-3. All three are underclassmen, Sexton added.

Sexton said Middletown finished its Greater Miami Conference tournament Saturday morning then came to Blanchester for the dual match. Middletown is coached by Seth Fair, who played for Sexton at Clinton-Massie.

“First off, a huge thanks to Middletown,” Sexton said. “They finished two consolation matches at the GMC tourney this morning and then drove to Blanchester for a dual match. That speaks to the dedication of their coach and their players.

“Always cool to coach against a former player, and Seth has done a great job with that program. They play in a brutally tough league and they had their season delayed a couple more weeks than the rest of us, so it has been a very condensed schedule.”
