Geggie wins state championship

Rodger O. Borror Middle School eighth grader Emma Geggie finished as the state meet champion in the Level 8 Jr. D balance beam competition at the USA Gymnastics Ohio Optional State Championship meet Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Niles, Ohio, at the Mayor Ralph Infante Wellness Center.

Geggie posted a season-best score of 9.525 in winning the balance beam competition. She finished as runnerup in the uneven bars with a 9.475 score and was third in the vault with a 9.225. Geggie was fifth in floor exercise with a 9.200 score.

The Wilmington City Schools eighth grader scored a season-high 37.425 in the all-around (uneven bars, floor exercise, balance beam and vault) competition at state and finished as runnerup, edged out by all-around champion Olivia Lynd who had a 37.650.

Geggie’s all-around score also qualifies her to compete at the Level 8 Region 5 Championship meet April 15-17 in Lexington, Ky.

A competitive gymnast since age 5, Geggie has been training with and representing Queen City Gymnastics of Cincinnati.
