Holmes Elementary School first grader Josiah Puller has won two state wrestling tournaments the past two weekends.

Puller won the Ohio Athletic Committee Ohio Grade School State Championship at Youngstown’s Covelli Centre this past weekend, after claiming the Ohio Wrestling Association for Youth (OH-WAY) state tournament title in Marion on March 12.

Puller is in the Wilmington Youth Wrestling Program. Andrew McCoy is the head coach of the program.

“He has had a really good season,” McCoy said. “He is fun to watch.”

Puller is 38-0 this season. McCoy said he has just one loss last year. Puller is the son of Alantino Keefer and Jessica Puller.

In the OH-WAY tournament, Puller competed in the six-year-old division. He had three pins en route to the championship.

In the OAC tournament in Youngstown, Puller won three matches on his way to the championship bout. Puller had pins in 2:08 and 1:16 as well as a technical fall 16-1 before competing in the final match.

Against Cael Lowdermilk in the 55-pound championship match, Puller scored an impressive 11-1 win.
