Taylor Florea had a dominating pitching performance and drove in three runs at the plate as Clinton-Massie blanked Wilmington 7-0 in a five inning South Central Ohio League softball game on the WHS diamond.
On a windy, cool, rainy day, Florea was on her game. She struck out 12 of the 17 batters she faced. The freshman right-hander limited WHS to two hits while collecting two hits herself at the plate.
“Taylor played a great game tonight,” CM coach Andy Lauer said. “She not only pitched a great game, she also helped herself out at the plate by going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.”
Ashlie Miller had two hits and scored twice for the Lady Falcons, who improve to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the SCOL.
“Florea was really on her pitching game today,” WHS head coach Glen Blessing said. “Unfortunately, we were not ready to compete at her level today.”
The game was called after five innings because field conditions “were deteriorating so we agreed to call the game at that point,” Blessing said.
The Lady Falcons got off to a fast start before the field began to break down.
“This was another game where we came out and jumped out to an early first inning lead,” said Lauer. “The weather wasn’t the best but again my girls did a great job blocking out the elements and playing good softball.
” Right now I like the way we are playing together as a team. We are hitting the ball well and doing those little things to put runs on the scoreboard.”
