Hurricane holds off Blue Lions 3-1

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — Wilmington held off a pesky Washington Senior tennis team Friday 3-1 in South Central Ohio League action at Gardner Park.

The match ended with the second doubles match still on the court. Because the weather and darkness were not cooperating with the two teams, the match was called, Hurricane coach Steve Reed said.

Wilmington moves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the league.

Hurricane victories came at second singles where Sawyer Kratzer was a 7-6, 6-0 winner; third singles where Jonathan Fender posted a 6-1, 6-1 win; and first doubles where the pairing of Brady Henry and Drew Moyer were 6-4, 6-4 winners.

The lone Washington victory came at first singles. Wilmington’s Matt Keiter lost in a third-set super tiebreaker, Reed said. The Blue Lion player is one of the most improved players Reed has seen in a number of years. He moved up from second doubles a year ago to first singles this season.
