GREENFIELD — Je’Taysia Johns had a game-saving play in the seventh, then Wilmington scored the winning run in the eighth Friday in a 5-4 victory over McClain in South Central Ohio League softball action at the McClain diamond.
“The girls responded very well to adversity today, something we have struggled with this season,” WHS coach Glen Blessing said. “They stuck together today and picked each other up.”
Wilmington led 4-2 going to the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Tigers tied the game at 4-4 and appeared to have it won, Blessing said, but Johns made a “game-saving catch in center field” to keep the score tied at 4-4.
“If she hadn’t run down that ball for the catch, it goes to the fence and the winning run scores,” Blessing said.
In the eight, Hunter Toller, who had three hits in the game, led off with a double. Jaylyn Hensley went in to run and eventually scored the winning run.
