CINCINNATI — The Wilmington High School reserve baseball team lost to Northwest 8-3 Tuesday night and now stand 4-5 on the year.

Wilmington had four of its seven hits in the first inning while taking a 2-0 lead.

DJ Ames and Kyler Reed had two hits each for Wilmington. Reed also had a stolen base and run batted in. Brett Bell had a run-scoring single.

However, the Hurricane committed seven errors and gave up five unearned runs.

Ames pitched five innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits. Of the seven runs allowed, only two were earned. Nate Lakes pitched two innings and gave up a run.

“We made too many errors,” WHS coach Dustin James said. “Ames did a great job on the mound. However, innings were extended because we couldn’t make outs on routine plays. We made mental mistakes as well that do not always show up in the score book and we can not have that.”
