Sectional pairings announced for tennis, softball, baseball

Sectional pairings were posted Sunday for the upcoming sectional tournaments for baseball, softball and tennis.

There is a $5 admission charge for all post-season baseball and softball tournament games, set by the Southwest District Athletic Board.

The Clinton-Massie softball team, unbeaten on the year at 18-0 at the time of the drawing Sunday, were the No. 1 seed in the Div. II Dayton Sectional tournament.

The Clinton-Massie baseball team, 18-1 at the draw, was seeded No. 3 in the Div. II Dayton Sectional tournament.

The tennis sectional for Blanchester and East Clinton will be played at the Sawyer Point Courts in Cincinnati beginning 8 a.m. May 11.

None of the players from EC or BHS were seeded.

Singles pairings are Thomas Oldham of BHS vs Luke Herron (Batavia); Nick Grogg of BHS vs Kwasi Burgin (Clark Montessori); Jed Turpin of BHS vs Cameron Coulter (New Richmond); Blake Bronson of EC vs No. 1 seed Kevin Yu (CCD); Jack Whittenberg of EC vs the winner of Joel Bird (NR) vs Spencer Wallace (Ross); and Elijah Howard of EC vs Mark Knauer (Batavia).

Whittenberg and Bronson will play their first matches at Sawyer Point on May 11. All of the other aforementioned matches will be played at a site and time to be determined by the participants. Winners of those preliminary round matches will advance to first-round matches on May 11 at Sawyer Point.

All of the following doubles matches are in the first round and will be contested at Sawyer Point.

Kayla Dugger and Wesley Mitchell of BHS will face Neff/Schroder from Ross. Luke Meares and Paul Luttrell of EC will meet Light/Maxwell of New Richmond. Should the local squads win those matches, they would meet in the second round.

Also, Jacob Miller and Matt Burden of BHS will meet Keenan/Thunga of CHCA and Jaren Evans and Travis Knell of EC will play Heflin/Weiskittel of New Richmond.

On the softball field, the Lady Falcons, who were district runnersup last season, will play either No. 7 seed Stivers or No. 10 seed Valley View in their first game 5 p.m. May 12 at CMHS. Valley View and Stivers will play at Valley View 5 p.m. May. 10.

In the Div. II Cincinnati Sectional, Wilmington and Blanchester are in the upper bracket. The Lady Hurricane (5-16) will travel to Mt. Orab to face No. 2 seed Western Brown (12-4) 5 p.m. May 10. No. 6 seed Blanchester (9-10) will host No. 7 seed Wyoming (9-3) 5 p.m. May 10.

In the Div. III Dayton Sectional, East Clinton (6-9) will play Greeneview (6-12) at East Clinton 5 p.m. May 9.

On the baseball diamond, the Falcons will play their first game against either Ross (12-9) or Franklin (4-15) 5 p.m. May 12 at Paul Schwamberger Field. The Rams and the Wildcats will meet 5 p.m. May 10 at Ross.

In the Div. I Cincinnati Sectional, Wilmington (12-7) will face Turpin (5-15) 5 p.m. May 10 on the WHS diamond. No. 3 seed LaSalle (15-5) will play the winner 5 p.m. May 12.

In the Div. III Cincinnati Sectional, Blanchester earned the No. 5 seed. The Wildcats, district runnersup a year ago, will meet No. 20 seed St. Bernard in their opener 5 p.m. May 9 at Bott Field on the BHS campus.

In the Div. III Dayton Sectional, East Clinton (2-16) will meet Dixie (2-11) at Dixie 5 p.m. May 9.
