BLANCHESTER — After a fast start. the Blanchester softball team held off Washington 9-8 Tuesday in a non-league game at BHS.

The Ladycats, 10-11 on the year, held a 9-0 lead after three innings but gave up seven runs to the Lady Blue Lions in the fourth inning.

“This was a game of big innings for each team,” BHS coach Jamey Grogg said. “I have to give (BHS pitcher) Maddie (Curless) credit for continuing to battle the final three innings and only allowing one more run.”

Grogg also commended the error-free BHS defense behind Curless.

Hannah Mann had three hits and drove in two Blanchester runs. Curless had two hits and two RBI.

“This was the kind of game I like to see leading up to the tournament,” Grogg said. “We had a big lead and they mounted an impressive come back, but we stayed focused and made the plays we needed to get the win.”
