MT. ORAB — Blanchester parlayed a fast start into a 10-7 win Friday over Western Brown in a non-league baseball game to end the Wildcats regular season.

Blanchester is now 14-5 overall. They finished 8-2 in the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division play.

BHS is scheduled to host St. Bernard 5 p.m. Monday in a Div. III sectional tournament game.

The Wildcats scored six runs in the first inning.

“This was a nice win to end our regular season, rolling into the tournament,” BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. “That was the best overall team we have played this year. Their starter is going to pitch at EKU (Eastern Kentucky University) and we scored six off him in the first, all earned. I was impressed with how hard we hit the ball in and limited our strikeouts against such good pitching.”

Robert Rausch had two hits and drove in three runs. Jared Monhollen had two hits and an RBI. Gavin Creighton also had two hits.

Blake Baker earned the pitching victory as the starter with five innings.

“That was the best hitting team we have faced this season,” Lawson said. “They have eight solid hitters. (Baker) pitched ahead, kept the ball down, and trusted his defense to make plays behind him.”

Alec Richardson finished things off on the mound to earn his third save of the season.

“He is such a bulldog and wants the ball in situations like that,” said Lawson. “It sure has been nice to use him as a starter and a closer this year.”
