BHS, EC doubles teams lose in quarterfinal round

CINCINNATI — Doubles teams from East Clinton and Blanchester won two matches each Wednesday at the Div. II Cincinnati Sectional tennis tournament at Sawyer Point.

However, both teams fell short in their semifinal match and were eliminated from district competition next week.

East Clinton Luke Meares and Paul Luttrell teamed for sectional play and started well with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Maxwell and Light of New Richmond. They then knocked off Neff and Schroeder of Ross 7-5, 6-2.

Jacob Miller and Matt Burden of Blanchester rallied for a 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win over Keenan and Thunga of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy in the opening round. They stopped Hillman and Wells of Goshen 6-0, 6-0 in the second round.

The Wildcat pair lost to No. 2 seed Bhandari and Lima, also of Indian Hill, 6-0, 6-0.

None of the other participants from Blanchester or East Clinton were able to win a match on Wednesday.

For Blanchester, Kayla Dugger and Wesley Mitchell lost to Neff and Schroeder of Ross 5-7, 2-6. Tomas Oldham lost to Herron of Batavia 2-6, 3-6; Nick Grogg was defeated by Kwasi Burgin of Clark Montessori 3-6, 7-5, 4-6; and Jed Turpin dropped a 1-6, 0-6 decision to Cameron Coulter of New Richmond.

For East Clinton, Blake Bronson lost to No. 1 seed Kevin Yu of Cincinnati Country Day 0-6, 0-6; Levi Bambic was defeated 0-6, 0-6 by Joel Bird of New Richmond; and Elijah Howard was eliminated by Mark Knauff of Batavia 0-6, 0-6. EC’s second doubles team of Travis Knell and Jaren Evans were defeated by Heflin and Weiskittel of New Richmond 1-6, 0-6.
