Roberts, Sinclair headed to NJCAA World Series

Chad Robers and his Sinclair Community College baseball teammates are headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Div. II World Series.

The Sinclair baseball team, ranked fifth in the final national poll of the regular season, earned its spot in the field of 10 by defeating 16th ranked Kellogg Community College Saturday in the Region XII championship game, 13-5.

Roberts is hitting. 344 (66-for-192) this season with a team-high 13 homeruns and a team-best 63 runs batted in for Sinclair. He has scored 61 runs in 57 games. Roberts, a Wilmington High School graduate, also leads the team in extra base hits with 33 and sacrifice flies with seven.

This is the first time Sinclair had made it to the Div. II World Series. Sinclair earned a spot in the regional final for only the third time in program history.

The Junior College Division II World Series in Enid, Okla. The tournament starts Saturday but Sinclair will play its first game 1 p.m. Sunday against Monroe Community College. The tournament runs through June 4.
