DAYTON — The Blanchester High School girls 4×800-meter relay team smashed their own school record Thursday at the Region 8 Track & Field Championship at Welcome Stadium.
The Ladycats quartet of Mckenzie Hamm, Olivia Gundler, Savannah Rhodes and Emma Gundler ran 10:14.44 and finished 10th overall. Their previous record, set a week ago at the Div. II New Richmond District meet was 10:21.24.
The girls 4×100-meter relay from Massie of Preslee Rolf, Courtney Gibson, Rachel Avery and Mallory Homan clocked a 51.79 and advanced to Saturday’s final. They have the seventh fastest time going in to the final heat.
Blanchester’s Morgan Deless was sixth in the girls discus competition with a best throw of 105-11. Clinton-Massie’s Jocelyn Burton had a best throw of 96-6, but did not place.
In the boys discus, Joey Holcomb of Blanchester was seventh with a best toss of 136-0.
Bryson Mills cleared 11-6 in the pole vault competition and finished in seventh place.
The top four finishers in each event advance to next week’s Div. II Ohio State Track & Field Championship at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Track.
The Clinton-Massie boys 4×800-meter relay team of Jacob Whitaker, Tanner Olberding, Alex Hudson and Nick Chowning ran 8:41.85 and finished 11th overall.
The Falcons 4×200-meter relay team of Cole O’Bryon, Devon O’Bryon, Scott Goings and Brandon Davis ran 1:35.09 and finished 13th in the preliminary heats.
The 4×100-meter relay from CMHS ran 45.88 seconds and finished 13th in the prelims. Team members were Scott Goings, Devon O’Bryon, Bailey Leforge and Davis.
Blanchester’s 4×400-meter relay team of Hamm, Olivia Gundler, Emma Gundler and Asia Baldwin were 0.2 off their school record time. They ran 4:16.81 and finished 11th in the prelims.
The Massie boys 4×400 team of Cole and Devon O’Bryon, Leforge and Goings ran 3:38.71 and were 11th in the prelims.
Leforge went 19-5 in the long jump was finished 13th overall.
The Region 8 meet continues Saturday with field events beginning at 11:30 a.m. and including local participants Preslee Rolf (Clinton-Massie) in the girls pole vault, Chris Demler (Clinton-Massie) in the high jump and Joey Holcomb (Blanchester) in the shot put. Track events begin at 12:30 p.m. and will include Jacob Whitaker (Clinton-Massie) in the 1600-meter run at 1:15 p.m., the Clinton-Massie girls 4×100-meter relay at 1:25 p.m. and Savannah Rhodes in the 3,200-meter run at 2:15 p.m.
