Southern State men pick up first win of season 6-1

The Southern State Community College men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season this past weekend in Michigan.

On Sunday the Patriots were defeated by the Andrews College Cardinals 16-0. Southern State goalkeepers Colton Dunseith and Jared McLaughlin combined for 41 saves in the match.

On Saturday Southern State posted a 6-1 victory, its first of the season, over Great Lakes Christian College.

Despite playing with nine players, Southern State received goals from five different players. Riley Payne, from Wilmington High School, had two goals, including the first of the match.

Mac Wilson, Ethan Puckett, Austin Doss and Isaiah Roades also scored goals for coach Timothy Swart’s squad.

This coming Friday, the Patriots will host Boyce College at 5 p.m. Following the match, Southern State will head to Virginia for a 3 p.m. Saturday match against Christendom College.
