WHS grad Briggs earns weekly PFL defensive honor

MOREHEAD, Ky. — Wilmington High School graduate Colt Briggs has been named Pioneer Football League co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Briggs, a junior football player at Morehead State University in Kentucky, had a key part in the Eagles’ come-from-behind 29-26 win over Valparaiso Saturday.

The defensive lineman, Briggs had 10 total tackles, including four tackles for loss. He also recorded a pair of quarterback hurries.

Briggs, a team co-captain, has 34 total stops in the first five games, including a team-best 10 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He has two sacks.

Showing his pass-catch skills, Briggs has a two-point conversion reception this season against Drake University on Sept. 24.

Morehead is 2-3 on the year but two of the losses have been by four and two points.

Morehead State will play 1 p.m. Saturday at Welcome Stadium against the University of Dayton.
