WC volleyball splits 2 matches, wins over OU-Chillicothe

The Wilmington College volleyball team split of pair of matches Saturday, falling to Marietta in straight sets and then beating OU-Chillicothe in straight sets.

Wilmington lost to the Pioneers, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, in the OAC match-up, but rebounded for the 25-21, 25-21, 25-16 non-conference win over the Hilltoppers.

Freshmen Amber Rox and Lauren Fraysier combined for 11 kills against Marietta. Rox led the team with six and Fraysier added five.

Junior Becca Harting recorded a team-high 11 digs, while freshman Morgan Householder finished with 10 digs. Senior Kara Short finished with 10 assists and freshman Alyssa McKenzie dished out nine assists.

For the second time in as many days, the Fightin’ Quakers recorded a win.

Wilmington tallied five straight points to open up a 19-14 lead to seize control of the first set. The Fightin’ Quakers expanded their lead to 23-16, but OU-Chillicothe pulled to within two before WC tallied the final two points for the win.

WC scored six of the final seven points for the 25-21 win in the second set. With the game tied at 15 in the third set, the Fightin’ Quakers rattled off 10 of the last 11 points to complete the sweep.

Rox led the team with 14 kills, marking the fourth time in six games with double-digit kills.

Junior Ileesha White added a career-high seven kills on 11 attempts and two block assists. Harting had a team-high 13 digs, while Householder added 12. Short distributed a team-high 13 assists.

Wilmington (3-19 overall) travels to Ohio Northern 7 p.m. Tuesday for another OAC contest.
