Southern State ‘9’ drops trio of soccer matches

As the season finale approaches, the Southern State Community College men’s soccer team continues its season despite being short-handed in every match.

The season finale is set for Oct. 29 against Christendom in Front Royal, Va.

The Patriots were defeated 11-1 Oct. 22 by Crown College of the Bible (Tenn.).

Crown had 52 shots against the Southern State “9” with goalkeeper Nick Wardlow making 18 saves. Riley Payne had the lone goal for Southern State.

On Oct. 20, Southern State was defeated by UC-Clermont 7-0 in a match played in inclement weather.

On Oct. 11, the Patriots dropped a 6-0 decision to Appalachian Bible College.

Riley Payne had early opportunities to put the Patriots on the scoreboard, coach Timothy Swart said, but both shots were just outside the post. Colton Dunseith, the SSCC keeper, had 24 saves.
