FAIRFIELD — The Wilmington High School boys and girls bowling teams dropped a pair of matches Thursday to Fairfield in non-league action at the Game of Fairfield.

The Hurricane boys had their best baker games series of the season but came up short 2,341 to 2,284.

Ryan Hottinger had a 430 series, with games of 211 and 219.

Going into the baker games, Wilmington trailed by 165 pins but put together eight strikes to start the baker games and finished with a 266 game. The 266 was a season-best in baker games for WHS.

“It takes some getting used to but at the same time you have to bowl well as a team,” said WHS coach Josh Fisher. “You are only throwing two frames apiece. Bakers are definitely tough.”

While Wilmington cut the difference to 45 after the 266 baker game, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Indians, who finished 12th last season in the district tournament. WHS was 24th in the district.

On the girls side, the Lady Hurricane were defeated by the Lady Indians 2,124 and 1,934.

Katie Hottinger was tops for WHS with games of 173 and 263. Chasity Asher had games of 162 and 151.

“Fairfield is an extremely talented team for the girls, so I felt like we did pretty well,” WHS girls coach Joe Gigandet said.

Wilmington had baker games of 178, 145 and 142. Fairfield’s baker games were 161, 184 and 157. WHS won the second game in the first round 793 to 776.

In reserve girls action, Wilmington lost to Fairfield but coach Fisher was pleased with the effort of Samantha Clark with a 117 game.
