Falcons roll after slow start 51-7

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — The ordinary started out anything but in the annual Cider Keg showdown between Blanchester and Clinton-Massie Friday at Frank Irelan Field.

Massie won its ninth straight Cider Keg battle 51-7, and its 23rd straight home game, 11th straight season opener and sixth home opener in the process.

But Blan scored first.

The Wildcats stuffed Massie on its first drive 15 yards from paydirt and proceeded 85 yards to take their first lead over CM since 2006. Blan quarterback Tristan Greene bulldozed his way across the goal line with multiple efforts for the score.

It was all Massie after that and Blan had multiple wrenches thrown into its game plan after Greene and backups Jordan Stroud and Jared Monhollen left the game after being shaken up.

“Our starting quarterback can wing it. We had them spread out and were able to run inside. He had some good runs,” Blanchester head coach Jack O’Rourke said about Greene. “Then we go to the second, third and fourth quarterback, we don’t have as much speed. It messed up our game plan.

“But I’m proud of the way they kept playing.”

After Blan’s touchdown, Massie scored the next seven times it had the ball. Yet another Wolf, this one Jaycob, scored a Falcon touchdown. Three of them came after Blan interceptions — pick sixes by Devon O’Bryon and Thomas Williams and a Davey Tunon 35-yard run. Williams also scored on a 22-yard reception from Hunter Fentress, who also scored on a 65-yard run. Tunon also had a scoring run of 2 yard.

“We got some young guys on defense who got some experience under the lights and played well. And we came out healthy,” CM head coach Dan McSurley said. “But, we have to play a lot more physical. Practice has to be a lot better. It all starts with conditioning.”
