BELLBROOK — For the third time in the past four years, the Wilmington High School wrestling team finished second Saturday at the Bellbrook Invitational.
With Isaac Allen and RJ Tolliver securing weight-class titles, the Hurricane scored 174.5 points and finished as runnersup behind Chaminade-Julienne’s 179 points. Hillsboro was third with 153.5 points.
The tournament format was a four wrestler bracket following pool competition, unless there weren’t enough wrestlers for at least two pools.
Allen claimed the title at 160 while Tolliver won at 195.
WHS coach Kelly Tolliver said both wrestlers “dominated” their weight classes.
Sam Eastes at 106, Cameron Smart at 113 and Conner Barton was 285 were all second in their classes.
“We were very happy with Sam’s performance,” Tolliver said. “He continues to improve on takedowns each week.”
Trent Holliday at 132, Jordan Pierce at 120 and Gage Smith at 220 were fourth.
“We were in the mix (for first) the entire day as a team,” said Tolliver. “Having eight guys in the finals is a nice place to be but those guys have to pull out some wins. We just were not able to transfer all of our success into the finals round when we needed it.”
