Led by goalkeeper Megan Borton, the Wilmington High School girls soccer team defeated Miami Trace 5-0 Tuesday in South Central Ohio League action at Panther Field.

Borton recorded the shutout and established a new career record for shutouts at 11. Baylah Arehart had 10 shutouts during her career (2010-2013).

With a 2-1 loss to Little Miami on Saturday, the Lady Hurricane is now 3-1 on the year.

Against Miami Trace, Wilmington led 2-0 at halftime with both goals by Drezden Beam.

“We dominated play and possession the entire game,” said WHS coach Kerry Lewis. “We had multiple shots on goal and many at close range. We have to do better finishing around the goal. We left too many goals off the scoreboard.”

Savannah Morgan, Katlyn Jamiel and Jordan Snarr added second half goals. Assists went to Bryah Arehart, Bridgette Thompson and Beam.

“Bryah is our engine,” said Lewis. “When she goes, we go. Everything we do, goes through Bryah. Bryah sets the tempo.”

Lewis said midfielder Jen Cochran “played her best game of the season” and Suzannah Johns “has really come on strong the past few games.”

“We’ve been counting on Suzannah to make a significant contribution at the varsity level with our defensive back line,” said Lewis. “Suzannah struggled through the preseason with an injury. She’s healthy now and she’s seeing the field better. Suzannah is really beginning to grasp team defense and what we’re teaching. Suzannah is peaking just in time for some of our big SCOL rivals.”

One of those rivals comes up Thursday when Wilmington hosts Clinton-Massie at Alumni Field. Kickoff for the girls game is set for 7 p.m.
