CNE holds off BHS volleyball

OWENSVILLE — The Blanchester volleyball team ran out of steam in the final set and lost to Clermont Northeastern 28-26, 15-25, 21-25, 25-21, 1-15 in a Southern Buckeye Conference match Thursday at the BHS gym.

“We played a great match,” BHS coach Rebecca Doughman said. “CNE’s offense is known to be tough but we match up with their hitters, blocking them 18 times.”

Asia Baldwin led the Ladycats defense at the net with eight blocks. Allie Evans led the backline defense with five digs and 23 perfect passes.

Doughman said Blanchester had 23 kills with only four hitting errors. Sarah Burton paced the attack with eight kills. Kayla Dugger and Hannah Wisniewski both had “smart plays pushing or tipping the ball,” Doughman said.

Burton also had four blocks, an ace, a dig and eight points. Baldwin had five points and three kills. Dugger finished with eight points, an ace, five kills and 14 assists. Wisniewski contributed three blocks, seven points, two kills, eight assists and a dig.

Stephanie Gerlach had three digs. Evans had nine pints, an assist and three kills. Rachael Doyle had three blocks, four assists and a kill. Shayla Sicurella had four point, a kill, an assist and four digs.
