The Blanchester eighth grade boys basketball team defeated previously unbeaten Mount Orab 59-49 Wednesday night.

Blanchester, now 10-3 on the year, got off to a fast start. Hunter Hartmann had a stickback at the quarter buzzer to put the Wildcats up six at the quarter break.

The Wildcat lead grew to 12 at the half and never went below seven the rest of the way, coach Brad Ballinger said.

Brayden Sipple had 19 of his game-high 39 points in the fourth quarter. Sipple was 14 for 16 at the free throw line and hauled in 11 rebounds, came up with four steals and blocked three shots.

Trenton Czaika had 12 points, three assists and played “lock down defense all night,” Ballinger said. Hartmann had five points. Brody Rice had two points and six rebounds. Logan Heitzman rounded out the scoring with a free throw.

Kyle Hopkins led the defensive effort with six steals. Bryce Highlander forced numerous turnovers playing back as the last line of defense in the Wildcat press, said Ballinger. The Broncos had 21 turnovers in the game, compared to nine for the Wildcats, the Blan coach said.
