Well, the South Central Ohio League is off to a rough start outside Clinton County.
While Wilmington, East Clinton and Clinton-Massie are a combined 5-1 through two weeks, the rest of the league is 0-10.
This week, Hillsboro travels to Owensville to face Clermont Northeastern (7 p.m. kickoff), Logan Elm visits Miami Trace, McClain travels to Zane Trace, Teays Valley plays at Chillicothe and Gallia Academy goes to Washington Senior.
Aside from Hillsboro, all games kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Hillsboro at Clermont NE
The Indians have improved a bit each week in opening against a pair of Southern Buckeye Conference squads. But they’ve lost two games — 40-0 to Western Brown and then 27-7 to Goshen.
This week, Hillsboro faces another SBC foe.
The Rockets come into the game at 0-2 having lost to Fayetteville 38-6 and Amelia 47-14.
The Indians defeated CNE 39-0 last season.
Logan Elm at Miami Trace
The Panthers need a defensive rejuvenation. They’ve lost 41-21 to Circleville and 34-16 to Carlisle in two weeks.
Logan Elm lost to Zane Trace 34-28 in overtime in the season opener then bounced back with a 54-12 win over Westfall.
Logan Elm, a playoff team in 2014, came out on top in last season’s matchup 40-21.
McClain at Zane Trace
McClain has put points on the board (60 in two games) but has surrendered 95. The Tigers lost 41-34 to Adena and 54-26 to Unioto.
The Pioneers are 2-0, with wins over Logan Elm, 34-28 in OT, and Waverly, 35-6.
Zane Trace was 7-3 in 2014 but struggled a bit in a 33-21 win over the Tigers.
Teays Valley at Chillicothe
The Cavaliers have a couple of close losses on their ledger. That’s not terribly satisfying but it means they have been close, losing 14-10 to Johnstown-Monroe in the opener and the 19-16 in overtime to Jackson last week.
Teays Valley is 1-1. The Vikings, a former SCOL member, blanked Westfall 38-0 to start the year then lost to unbeaten Logan 27-7
Teays Valley defeated Chillicothe 28-21 a year ago, one of three closes losses for the Cavs.
Gallia Academy at Washington
Washington’s offense has struggled in a pair of losses — 14-7 to Johnstown Northridge in Week 1 and 39-7 to Circleville in Week 2.
Something has to give this week as Gallia Academy comes in at 0-2 as well. The Blue Devils lost to unbeaten Meigs 26-12 in the first game and then to unbeaten River Valley 27-13 last week.
Who will truly be “blue” at 0-3 after this week’s game?
The teams did not play in 2014.
