HANOVER, Ind. — The Wilmington College bats were silent for the most part Wednesday in a doubleheader loss to Hanover in non-conference softball action at Kops-Bedel Stadium.

Wilmington (3-15 on the year) lost 5-1 and 3-0 and collected just four hits in each game.

In the first game, Jilia Cook, Michalah Hensley, Madi Wellendorf and Kerrie Trautman had one hit each. Hensley had the only RBI for Wilmington with a seventh inning homerun to help avoid a shutout. Wellendorf had a double, her first career hit in a WC uniform.

Becca Carpenter (0-8) started on the mound and gave way to Beth Persicano for the final two innings.

Wilmington was 0-for-7 with five strikeouts with runners in scoring position. WC stranded six runners.

In the second game, Kaylee Barber collected two hits for the Fightin’ Quakers. Savannah Hooper and Hensley had one hit each for WC.

Mariyah Burkhardt (1-2) started and gave up just two earned runs. She did not walk a batter. Persicano came on in relief and gave up three hits but no walks.

Wilmington had a base runner in each of the first four innings.

Wilmington will host Capital in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
