CINCINNATI — Brett Bell tossed a five-hitter as Wilmington defeated Northwest 5-2 in a non-conference varsity baseball game Thursday afternoon.

Bell (1-1) threw 75 pitches in the complete game effort. He allowed five hits and did not walk a batter. Bell was credited with four strikeouts.

Ryan Hottinger led the WHS offense, going 3-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored.

“We hit well tonight and Brett did an outstanding job on the mound,” WHS head coach Dustin James said. “Brett was in control the entire game and was able to get ahead of hitters in the count. Very proud of our pitching and the bottom of our lineup hitting well. When the top of our lineup is not hitting like they can, it is key for our middle and bottom to produce, and tonight they did that.”

The win moves Wilmington to 2-2 on the year. The Hurricane is scheduled to host Hillsboro Friday in South Central Ohio League action.

Chad Davis and Kyler Reed had two hits each for Wilmington. Reed had a double, a stolen base and also drove in a run. Zach Wyrick, Drew Carey, Alex Meyer and Chris Wolary all had hits in the win. Wolary and Hottinger both had stolen bases.
