Darkness ends Wildcats battle with Tigers at 5-5

BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester High School baseball game with Bethel-Tate Monday was suspended after eight innings with the teams tied at 5-5.

The Southern Buckeye Academic & Athletic Conference National Division was called because of darkness, BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. The game will resume at a later date with the top of the ninth inning.

Robert Rausch and Jacksson Waialae both had hits and drove in a run for the Wildcats.

“We came out flat and let them score three in the first after three walks and an error,” Lawson said. “We are lucky it wasn’t worse than that. Offensively we were unable to cash runners in at third. If we could have traded outs for runs in that situation, no extra frames are needed.

“We need to do a better job of pitching from in front. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot by giving teams free bases. And when our pitcher makes a pitch we need to make that play for him.”

Blanchester is 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the National Division and is scheduled to face Hillsboro on Tuesday.
