CHILLICOTHE — Olivia Veidt reached base four times and hurled seven shutout innings as Wilmington defeated Chillicothe 9-0 Wednesday in a South Central Ohio League softball game at MT Logan Field.
Wilmington is 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the SCOL.
Veidt had a double and homerun and was hit by two pitches.
On the mound, the freshman right-hander pitched seven innings, striking out three and surrendering three hits. She did not walk a batter.
“Olivia filled up the strike zone from the mound,” WHS coach Glen Blessing said. “She only needed 53 pitches to go the distance and the defense backed it up with a solid, error-free game.”
Courtney Smart drove in two runs and Devin Laufer scored twice.
“We did a much better job at the plate tonight,” Blessing said. “Although only seven hits, the girls were much more disciplined and had several hard hit balls that Chillicothe made good defensive plays on.”
