Massie runs roughshod over Hillsboro 19-0

HILLSBORO — For the second straight game, the Clinton-Massie offense was in high gear Thursday in a 19-0 win over Hillsboro in South Central Ohio League softball action at Shaffer Park.

The Lady Falcons improve to 11-0 overall and 7-0 in league play.

“The girls came out hitting the ball,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said.

While Massie scored seven runs in the first inning with two outs, the process was different in the second inning when the Lady Falcons plated seven runs before Hillsboro recorded an out.

Claire Carruthers took the mound and breezed to a dominant 1-hit, 9-strikeout performance.

“Claire pitched a great game,” said Lauer. “The only hit she gave up was in the last inning. I was happy to see her have a good outing.”

Madilyn Newton, who had a big game Wednesday against East Clinton, had another against the Lady Indians. She hit a grand slam and drove in five runs.

Victoria Sivert had two triples among her three hits. Lindsey Carter also had three hits and scored three times. Carruthers, to back her own pitching, had three hits and knocked in three runs.

Massie plays at Washington Friday before embarking on a Spring Break trip to Tennessee next week.
