PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Hailey Clayborn drove in nine runs for Clinton-Massie in a 27-3 win over Rocky River Magnificat Wednesday morning to lead the Lady Falcons to a doubleheader sweep.
State-ranked Massie, 15-1 on the season, also defeated Lakewood 4-0. Both Lakewood and RRM are Div. I schools in Ohio.
CMHS will played Lakewood and Cherokee (Tenn.) in a doubleheader on Thursday.
Against Magnificat, Clayborn drove in what is believed to be a school record nine runs as Massie scored nine runs in the first and eight in the second of the blowout. Kelsey Carter had six runs batted in. Taylor Florea went 5-for-5 with five runs scored and four runs batted in. Victoria Sivert scored six runs. Carter went 4-for-4 and Clayborn went 5-for-5.
“Our hitting was tremendous during this game,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “We went 23 for 36 at the plate. The team effort was outstanding for an unusually early weekday game.”
The game began at 11 a.m.
Against Lakewood, Florea pitched a three-hitter and struck out seven.
“Lakewood came out with some good pitching,” said Lauer. “After the first game we played, she was able to mix things up a little and keep us off balance. We again played great defense and were able to handle everything they put into play.”
