BLANCHESTER — In a battle of Wildcats, Blanchester held off Williamsburg 3-2 Friday in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division game at Bott Field on the BHS campus.

The win keeps the Clinton County Wildcats atop the National Division with a 7-0 record. In all games, BHS is 10-5. WHS is now 6-9, 3-5.

“This was a nice team win for us,” BHS coach Aaron Lawson said. “A lot of different guys were able to contribute. We were able to do the little things right today that don’t show up on the stat sheet.”

Blake Baker pitched seven strong innings to get the win on the mound for Blanchester.

“Blake really settled in after the third,” said Lawson. “He dealt with a lot of traffic early but was able to get out of jams himself. He was able to get stronger as the game went on. The difference in the last four innings, he was able to throw his curve in any count.”

Blanchester trailed 1-0 but Brant Bandow’s fourth inning single tied the game at 1-1 then Jack Davidson singled home the go-ahead run, 2-1, in the fourth.

In the sixth, Bandow sacrificed Jared Monhollen to third with one out. Dustin Howard then ripped an RBI single to put Blanchester on top 3-2.
