WILLIAMSBURG — In a battle of state-ranked teams, Clinton-Massie’s Victoria Sivert homered in the fifth to lift the Lady Falcons to a 2-1 win over Williamsburg Monday in a non-league matchup.
The Lady Falcons, 24-1 on the year, are ranked No. 5 in this week’s Div. II state poll. The Lady Wildcats are ranked No. 6 in the Div. IV state poll.
Taylor Florea pitched seven strong innings, allowing one unearned run. She did not walk a batter.
“This was a pitchers game,” CM coach Anthony Lauer said. “Taylor did a good job hitting her spots. It showed by not giving up any walks.”
Sivert’s blast over the left-field fence erased a 1-0 WHS lead.
“Man that was a huge hit by Victoria,” Lauer said. “When it came off the bat I knew it was gone over the left field fence. She has been hitting the ball really well.
“We haven’t played a game in a week. Our bats were a little quiet tonight. Williamsburg is a solid team with some great pitching.”
Massie plays the Talawanda/Oakwood winner at home on Thursday in the sectional tournament. Admission is $5.
