Wildcats can’t hold 21-7 lead, fall to Broncos 35-21

MOUNT ORAB — Western Brown scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns and rallied from a 21-7 deficit to defeat Blanchester 35-21 Friday night.

It wasn’t quite the epic 60-57 Western Brown win from a year ago when Chaiten Tomlin threw for six touchdowns, but the Broncos signal caller had five touchdown passes in this one.

Hunter Collier scored on a pair of touchdowns and Travis Nelson added another TD as the Wildcats held a 21-7 lead with 8:32 to play in the third quarter. The Blanchester option attack on offense kept the Broncos off balance through the first half.

But the Broncos scored on two pass plays – one a 56-yarder and the other a 3-yarder – to tie the game at 21-21.

In the fourth quarter, the Broncos pulled ahead on a 50-yard scoring play.

The Wildcats, however, were not finished.

Nelson converted a fourth down play to put the ball inside the 25 yard line. But the Wildcats fumbled and the Broncos recovered.

Western Brown then had the ball first and goal at the 4, then had to convert a fourth and goal at the 12. They did and it resulted in a 12-yard touchdown pass to make the difference 14 points.

Branson Campbell had a pair of interceptions on defense for Blanchester.
