’Cane clobbers Buccaneers at WGC

XENIA — The Wilmington High School boys golf team opened its season Tuesday with a 40-shot win over Xenia at the WGC Golf Course.

The Hurricane had a 344 while the Buccaneers came in with 384.

“We were not familiar with the course, and our course management was not good today,” said WHS coach Phil Gilmore. “But we showed some signs of good play in time for our first SBAAC match Thursday.”

Wilmington along with the other Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference American Division schools will play at Majestic Springs Thursday in a divisional match. First tee time is set for 8 a.m.

Hunter DeWeese led WHS with an 84.

Jack Murphy and Cameron Smart both shot 86s on the 6,226-yard layout. Dylan Combs had an 88.

Playing but not scoring for the Hurricane squad was Zach Zeckser and Zack Delaney.
