Ladycats doubles team ousted in semifinal of Blanchester Invitational

BLANCHESTER — The Blanchester doubles pairing of Korie White and Alexis Vestal were knocked out in the semifinal round Monday of the Blanchester Invitational tennis tournament on the BHS courts.

White and Vestal posted two wins on Saturday and then faced the New Richmond pair of Hinkston and Harrison in the one of the semifinal matches. Though a hard-fought match by both squads, the Blanchester duo came up on the short end of a 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 score.

“I thought they played their best match of the season against New Richmond,” BHS coach Matt Sexton said. “They won’t play a more athletic duo this season. We hit the ball well. The mistakes we made were mistakes of aggression, which I’m perfectly OK with. They have improved over the three matches of this tournament.”

Erin Wilson in the singles bracket was the only other BHS player to record a win, posting a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Taylor Hogsed of West Clermont in the opening round. She then lost to Caroline Clifton, the eventual singles champion.

“She (Wilson) gave her (Clifton) a better match than anyone in the tournament. It’s the type of result that should fill her with confidence heading into league play,” said Sexton.

Western Brown’s O’Hara and Carroll won the doubles bracket while Goshen’s Clifton was the singles bracket champion.
