Perry picks up 4-1 win over Wilmington at W&S Open

MASON — The Wilmington High School tennis team dropped its match Saturday to Perry, 4-1, at the Lindner Family Center during the professional Western & Southern Open.

The lone WHS win came at first doubles where Brooklyn Nielsen and Emma Schroeder notched a 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 10-8 win.

“Both doubles teams played very strong second sets,” WHS coach Doug Cooper said. “First doubles was down 1-4 and came back to force a tie-breaker.

“Emma and Brooklyn are playing great tennis now and it shows.”

Cooper said members of his squad are still growing into their roles.

“Experience was a factor at the Open this year, as it was last year when we had so many seniors and won 5-0,” said Cooper. “We still have players learning their roles on the team, which is to be expected in our situation.”
