Hurricane blanks another; Xenia falls 2-0

WILMINGTON — Playing back-to-back games wasn’t much of a hindrance for the Wilmington High School boys soccer team.

Just one day after blanking Clinton-Massie 9-0 on Tuesday, the Hurricane blanked Xenia 2-0 at Alumni Field in a non-league match.

“I give a lot of credit to the boys their effort,” WHS coach Imad El-Macharaffie said. “Xenia usually carries a good team and, just like us, played last night too.”

El-Macharaffie said his Hurricane were “able to finish our early chances” for goals and posted the victory.

Sam Spirk tallied his eighth goal in three games, in addition to recording an assist.

Charly Schumacher scored the other WHS goal. Jake Vaughan added an assist.

Graham Vilvens had six saves in goal for Wilmington.

Wilmington “will savor the next couple days off” before playing at Hillsboro Saturday afternoon.
