HILLSBORO — A fast start propelled the Wilmington High School boys soccer team to a 4-2 win over former South Central Ohio League rival Hillsboro Saturday at HHS.

Sam Spirk scored all four goals for the Hurricane, improving his season total to 12.

Wilmington is 3-1 on the year and has won three straight matches.

“The first 15 minutes, we really set the tone,” WHS coach Imad El-Macharaffie said. “We found holes in their midfield and sent some really good balls forward, that their defense had a hard time adjusting too right away. That enabled us to score four goals quickly.”

Seth Gundlach had three assists while Eli Hicks recorded one assist.

“Overall, we coaches weren’t particularly impressed with how we played as the game went on,” El-Macharaffie said. “We had a few players down with injuries, but we need to take care of the ball better if we want to beat better teams.”
