OWENSVILLE — Unable to net the equalizer in the second half, the Blanchester High School girls soccer team lost to Clermont Northeastern 2-1 Tuesday in a Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division match at CNE.

Blanchester is 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the National Division. Clermont Northeastern is 1-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the division.

The Lady Rockets went up 2-0 with aggressive play early in the match.

Late in the first half, Emily Hinkle intercepted a CNE pass and turned to the offense. She “slipped a smart pass through to Sierra Drake,” BHS coach Kurt Ballinger said.

Drake beat the CNE keeper with a shot to make it 2-1 with approximately five minutes remaining in the first half.

Ballinger said both teams had “quality chances” in the second half but neither team was able to score.

Regan Ostermeier, the BHS goalkeeper, had six saves.

Olivia Gundler played well in the midfield for BHS and subs Rongyu Wu and Kelsey Naylor “added good minutes from the bench, giving a boost to a bench that has been depleted with several injuries,” said Ballinger.
