Blanchester, Bethel-Tate play to 2-2 tie

BETHEL – Unable to hold a pair of one-goal leads, Blanchester played Bethel-Tate to a 2-2 tie Tuesday in Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference National Division action.

The tie puts Blanchester at 1-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the National Division. Bethel-Tate is now 4-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the division.

Emily Hinkle gave the Ladycats a 1-0 lead on a “sublime long range shot” from outside the box that hit the crossbar and went in, BHS coach Kurt Ballinger said. Lana Roy recorded the first assist of her varsity career on the play.

After Bethel-Tate’s Natalie Struve tied the match, the teams went to the intermission tied at 1-1.

Blanchester again gained a one-goal advantage when Taylor McQuitty fed Sierra Drake who beat the Tigers goalkeeper for a 2-1 BHS advantage.

Sofia Rodriguez of Bethel-Tate tied the match with a goal off a rebound in front of the Ladycats net.

Ballinger said Olivia Gundler and Savanna Shank both played well on defense for Blanchester. Regan Ostermeier finished with nine saves in goal.
